WIPO is proud to join over 60 number intellectual property (IP) offices and organizations worldwide in a joint message [English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, Russian, Spanish] pledging support for women in creativity and innovation and renewing commitment to empower women’s participation in the IP ecosystem.
In celebration of the 2025 International Women’s Day theme, “For ALL Women and Girls — Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” we unite to expand access to opportunities offered by the intellectual property (IP) system. Women continue to face challenges in securing IP rights, leading to their underrepresentation across patents, design applications, and copyright registrations. Recognizing that advancing equality in innovation and creativity is essential for economic and societal progress, the Joint Message reaffirms our commitment to collective action.

WIPO, together with IP offices and organizations from every region of the world, is dedicated to empowering women and girls by:
- Promoting IP knowledge and skills-building initiatives;
- Supporting mentorship and education programs;
- Research and sharing data-driven insights to drive policy change.

Learning from Global Policies and Initiatives
Exchanging good practices and strategies implemented by different IPOs and organizations can inspire us to adopt our own transformative approaches, helping to close the gap. Notable examples include:
- The EUIPO’s Strategic Plan 2030
- INPI Brazil's Strategic Committee on Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion
- JPO’s Research Study on Gender Diversity and Inclusion in the IP Ecosystem
- The 2024 Women in IP Conference hosted by ARIPO and URSB in the framework of the AfrIPI project implemented by the EUIPO
- Korea’s International Women’s Invention Exposition organized by the Korea Women Inventors Association (KWIA) with the cooperation of KIPO
These practices represent just a few of the efforts happening around the world to enhance women’s participation in innovation, IP, and economic activity. For more information and additional examples, the WIPO IPGAP Database offers a comprehensive resource of national and regional policies and initiatives designed to support women in innovation, IP, and entrepreneurship.
